The Catering Service Supervisor is responsible for planning, directing, and leading the service of all catered functions. This position must demonstrate knowledge of high professional standards in areas such as dining room set-up and service, customer service, quality control, sanitation, food presentation, supervision, and training of service personnel.
In coordination with the Catering Sales Office and Catering Sous Chef, assist in planning, service arrangements, food production, transportation, and clean up for all catered events, including full-service, take-out and deliveries.
Recruit, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate all catering service personnel to ensure consistent professional catered event service.
Arrange complete dining service and room set-up as specified on catering orders.
Relay a favorable image of Cal Poly Corporation to the customer by demonstrating a high degree of professionalism, technical skills, and customer relations techniques through supervision and participation in catering service activities.
Communicate with other Campus Dining departments to ensure coordination of events.
Maintain standing inventories of service products and supplies in a variety of service locations including the president’s catering kitchen, the Alumni House, and the Central Facility to ensure consistent service.
Maintain safe, clean and secure storage of catering equipment and supplies in all assigned areas and recommend repairs with follow-up in order to minimize service inefficiencies.
Monitor the quantity, quality, and food presentation of catering meals to guarantee professional customer service.
Formulate catering service and equipment requirements and recommend purchases based on projected needs to ensure consistent quality service.
Report accurate customer attendance to ensure correct billing for catered events.
High school degree or equivalent. Minimum of four (4) years experience in providing customer service with at least two (2) years of catering experience and at least two (2) years in a supervisory role. Experience in organizing, planning, and providing catering service for groups as large as 1,000 persons. Background in college or university food service preferred. Ability to operate various kitchen equipment including high volume coffee brewing machines. Strong oral and written communication skills and computer literacy. Wide knowledge of the principles, techniques, and procedures of service provided at catered events, including coordinating and scheduling catering service for a number of events held simultaneously. Excellent customer service skills and ability to develop good working relationships. Ability to understand and anticipate customer needs. Ability to work varied hour and day schedules in coordination with catered event needs. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to drive a truck with automatic or manual transmission. Become ServSafe certified within first year of service and maintain certification as required. Must possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to our insurance underwriters. Must pass a background check. Regular full-time attendance is required.
