Mustang Media Group Takes First Place in Ad Competition
Winning ad promotes Cal Poly’s Zero Waste sustainability program
Mustang Media Group took first place in native advertising at the annual advertising competition of College Media Business and Advertising Managers (CMBAM). The winning ad was for Zero Waste, a sustainability program on the Cal Poly campus.
The ad was developed for Cal Poly Campus Dining by Mustang Media Group in partnership with Cal Poly Corporation’s MarCom department and Mustang News. The native ad was created to increase education amongst students about how to dispose of their Campus Dining waste. With the new Zero Waste bins, students can separate their trash for compost, recycling or landfill but are often confused about what waste goes where. The ad’s quiz format was an interactive way to help them learn.
“It is an honor to have our work acknowledged by CNBAM,” said Ellen Curtis, director of marketing and communication for the Cal Poly Corporation. “The national recognition speaks volumes about the talent and determination of the team. And we are even more gratified that we were able to increase visibility for this vital sustainability program.”
The ad beat out hundreds of entries in CMBAM’s Best Native Advertising category. Competition winners were selected from more than 650 entries, submitted by approximately 50 colleges and universities nationwide. In total, CMBAM recognized 148 winners from 33 schools.
