Endowments

The types of endowments managed by the Investment Services Division of Cal Poly Corporation are:

  1. Permanent endowment: Funds received from a donor with the restriction that the principal is not expendable.
  2. Term endowment: Funds for which the donor stipulates that the principal may be expended after a stated period or upon the occurrence of a certain event.
  3. Quasi endowment: Funds that are established by the governing board to function like endowment funds, but may be expended at any time at the discretion of the Board.

Endowment Thresholds

Endowments may be established with less than threshold amounts; however, the threshold must be reached within three years of establishment for the endowment to become permanent. All endowment earnings are credited to principal until the minimum threshold is reached.
