Endowments
The types of endowments managed by the Investment Services Division of Cal Poly Corporation are:
- Permanent endowment: Funds received from a donor with the restriction that the principal is not expendable.
- Term endowment: Funds for which the donor stipulates that the principal may be expended after a stated period or upon the occurrence of a certain event.
- Quasi endowment: Funds that are established by the governing board to function like endowment funds, but may be expended at any time at the discretion of the Board.
Endowment Thresholds
- Scholarship - $10,000
- University Program - $10,000
- Award - $3,000
Endowments may be established with less than threshold amounts; however, the threshold must be reached within three years of establishment for the endowment to become permanent. All endowment earnings are credited to principal until the minimum threshold is reached.
