The CPC Cornhole Tournament Returns
Following a two-year, pandemic-induced hiatus, athletes representing nearly every Corporation department gathered on Dexter Lawn to toss bean bags, nosh on snacks, talk some smack and battle for bragging rights and a not-very-large trophy.
Competition was stiff and the talk was plentiful in the early rounds as the Corndawgs downed Just Brew It to move onto the quarter finals against the Virgo Queens.
The Cal Poly Baggers took advantage of their first-round bye and entered the tourney in the quarter finals rested and easily making it to a semifinal showdown with the mighty Corndawgs. The Baggers’ Monique “Mo” Huitron put the slumping Russell Monteath on her back and carried him to victory, but not before Corndawgs rookie sensation Veronica “I Prefer Shooting Pool” Sanders put up a heartfelt fight that left many of the half-dozen spectators in tears.
The top of the bracket saw the Bean (Bag) Counters eat up the Lucky Charms in the first round before beating the A-Town Aces in the quarters and topping The Terrible 2, to make it a repeat trip to the championship round.
The chatter waned as the Cal Poly Baggers duo of Huitron and Monteath entered the arena to take on returning champs Dan Banfield and Joe Alves and the juggernaut known as the Bean (Bag) Counters. It was a barn burner of a championship match with each team trying, and failing, to look as if they didn’t care about the outcome.
In the end, the Bean (Bag) Counters came through unscathed and victorious.
