Cal Poly Corporation Strategic Plan

Background

Cal Poly Corporation has completed its strategic plan that will guide the organization through 2012-22. This plan sets the course for the corporation to fulfill its role within the broader A&F strategic plan as well as position itself to provide best in class campus experiences and solutions, supporting the university and advancing its mission.

Strategic Direction #1

Ensure organizational excellence through intelligent and effective practices.

Provide effective stewardship of corporation resources. Align organizational purpose and campus policies to best serve today’s university.

  1. Review university delegated roles and responsibilities for all programs and assets, ensure clarity and coordination of all functions with university partners. Include Swanton, Tech Park, others.
  2. Complete review and update of policies, practices and agreements; ensure language is consistent with intent and practice, and supports organizational success.
  3. Analyze financial policies/practices, with a financial model for long term financial sustainability of assets and programs in support of campus goals.
  4. Educate staff and stakeholders on roles, responsibilities, policies and practices to increase understanding and utilization. (supported by strategic direction 3.3.A and C.)

Ensure business processes and practices maximize efficiency and service, making best use of resources and assets.

  1. Adopt Lean principles, methods and tools throughout the organization.
  2. Review processes and systems for areas needing improvement and shared service opportunities, prioritize through assessment of risks, costs and benefits, and implement improvements/shared services.
  3. Develop relevant KPI’s for corporation business and support services, analyze operations against KPI’s.
  4. Develop financial analysis reports for effective management insight and data-supported decisions.
